Two one-hour documentaries were filmed partly at the Marstan Hotel in Torquay to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the well-loved sitcom Fawlty Towers.
Ian Krender, proprietor said "It was unusual to see television greats such as Trevor McDonald, Terry Gilliam and Prunella Scales, amongst others, being interviewed in various rooms throughout the hotel. Our favourite was actor David Kelly who played Mr O’Reilly the hapless Irish builder in the episode "The Builders". He was interviewed in our snug bar and proceeded to do impressions of himself as Mr O’Reilly."
He added "It was great fun filming with the professional production crew" stated Ian Krender. "We are proud to have been part of this documentary about one of the all time classic comedies".
The documentary aired on UK G.O.L.D. this summer and will be repeated on various freeview channels throughout 2009 and 2010.
This is not the first time The Marstan has appeared on national television. In 2008 Ian and Craig welcomed Hotel Inspector, Alex Polizzi, in order to use The Marstan as an example of a well-run Torquay hotel for the struggling Number Nine. This was aired in August 2008 on Channel 5 to an audience of around three million and is still repeated on various freeview channel |
