Our rating explained
In 2006 the AA and Visit Britain changed the way that small hotels were rated. Whereas small hotels/guest houses used to be awarded diamonds it is now stars. The good news for consumers is that the ratings system is far tougher than before – reflecting improving standards in the industry and higher customer aspirations. This means that many small hotels/guest houses for example that may have received four or five diamonds in the past may perhaps only receive three or four stars under the new system. Our five star rating is reflective of an extensive (and ongoing) refurbishment programme put into place in 2006-2007 in order to raise quality to this much higher level.
We are very proud of our rating under the guest accommodation scheme designed for small/medium sized establishments (not small bed and breakfasts that have another scheme). The guest accommodation scheme provides emphasis on quality of public areas, bedrooms and bathrooms. The hotel scheme on the other hand focuses on facilities – such as 24-hour room service, lifts to all floors, indoor swimming pools etc which small establishments could never offer. From us you should expect bedrooms and public areas appointed to an excellent standard with a good range of facilities for a small hotel.
